Salman Khan In News Again

Salman Khan
Bollywood’s heartthrob and a very dedicated body builder, Salman Khan a.k.a Sallu Bhai is in the news again. And this time its for so many reasons!
Firstly its about his never-ending, decade long, rash driving case. We hear that while Salman was driving, he was quite aware of the consequences his rash driving could lead to. Smashing into a bakery, killing one person and injuring four others is what he had in his mind? Yeah Right!! Who would ever do something like that if they were aware of the consequences?
Well, the magistrate thinks otherwise and is charging Salman under IPC Section 304 part II (culpable homicide not amounting to murder). Poor Salman if convicted can land up in jail to a maximum sentence of 10 years! When questioned Salman’s lawyer about the charges he said “The alleged incident had taken place at mid-night, when it was extremely dark and many people had gathered at the scene of the accident. Therefore, prima-facie it is amply clear that there was absence of any motive or intention to kill someone. The act as alleged is not an act of culpable homicide, but an unfortunate incident, beyond control of accused, such as an act of God.”
Apart from all this tension, we hear this Salman will soon be signing a 500 crore deal with Star Network. According to the contract Star Network will now have the exclusive satellite rights to broadcast all the films featuring Salman that are to be released from January 2013 to December 2017

Shahrukh Khan’s Silent Treatment

Shahrukh Khan
There’s a lot of controversy doing rounds regarding Kamal Haasan’sVishvaroopam. And everyone has something or the other to say about it. But what’s surprising is that Bollywood’s superstarShahrukh Khan has nothing to say about it and when on a recent TV interview he was probed to give his views he said “I’m an actor. You speak to me about my films. You want to speak about serious issues, you get some serious people – not actor and actresses.”
Looks like Shahrukh’s feelings really got hurt when his article was picked up and a verbal war was waged between Indian and Pakistani’s ministers. Shahrukh Khan’s article was about his feelings on what it is like to be a Muslim in post 9/11 world and the politicians made a huge mess out of it. Being the sensible person he is, Shahrukh Khan later gave a statement stating , “I would like to tell all those who are offering me unsolicited advice that we in India are extremely safe and happy. We have an amazing democratic, free and secular way of life. In the environs that we live here in my country India, we have no safety issues regarding life or material.”
Lets hope that Shahrukh lets goes of these feelings and gets lively and sporty again!

Deepika Padukone’s new look

Deepika Padukone
Bollywood’s dimple Queen and fashionista to set a new trend soon! Yes, that’s right! We will soon seeDeepika Padukone wearing a Lungiand shirt for her upcoming movie,Chennai Express.
Deepika, known for going an extra mile to fit in the role says that it was Shahrukh and Rohit Shetty, the director who suggested the look.
A bit apprehensive about the look, Deepika says “That’s something new and I hope it works,The idea to wear a ‘lungi’ is not mine actually. It was Shah Rukh and Rohit who came up with it. We had to quickly do a photoshoot because we were losing the light. They were like ‘Why don’t we give her this ‘lungi’ and make her look modern’. The shirt that I am wearing in the posters also belongs to SRK, only the sunglasses are mine,”
Deepika’s Bollywood debut was with Shahrukh Khan in Om Shanti Om and the movie was a massive success. After Om Shanti Om, this is the second movie that Deepika and Shahrukh will be doing together. Apart from Chennai Express, Deepika also has Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani with Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ram Leela
Meanwhile, Deepika’s co-stars from ,Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani threw her a surprise party for her performance in Race 2

Bollywood’s latest newcomer, Alia Bhatt is famous

Alia Bhatt
Alia Bhatt, B-town’s latest newcomer has her hands full. After delivering a super hit movie,Student Of The Year, Alia now has two more movies up her sleeve.
Thanks to Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt will now be seen in 2 states. The movie is screen adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s novel of the same name. Though Chetan was very skeptical about casting Alia Bhatt for the role, a photoshoot of Alia in the character convinced him that Alia would nail the character.
Its rumoured that “Chetan and Sajid were convinced from the outset that they’d cast a Punjabi actor and a South Indian actress to retain full authenticity in the plot. The original plan was to cast Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. But when Arjun Kapoorstepped into the picture Deepika couldn’t be seen looking compatible with Arjun.”
Since they couldnt possibly pair Deepika with Arjun, Karan suggested Alia for the role. Well, as they say one man’s loss is another man’s gain and in this case it’s Deepika’s loss and Alia’s gain. Moreover, when they started the photoshoot, Alia shocked everyone. Apparently nobody expected Alia do the role well with out a lot of hard work. But she showed everyone how determined she is towards her work. Now it’s only the accent that Alia will have to work rather hard on. Let’s hope all goes well for Alia!

Story

This is an Akshay Kumar film. Despite all the anticipation, it is easy at once to understand the apprehensions then. Only someone who has wasted a significant portion of their lifetime watching nonsensical gibberish starring the actor would know that even if the promo of a picture looks promising and the plot is thick, there is a baggage that the star may bring along, which could make everything redundant eventually.
There is the Punjabi wedding early on in the movie with the customary bhangra and giddha and the song with words “mar jawa” and “soniye”. You cringe but keep your fingers crossed. The heroine (Kajal Aggrawal) eyes the hero. Her family is marrying her off to someone else. She knows the hero will take her away sooner than she hits the mandap. This under-explored romance has nothing to do with the picture per se. I am glad to report, it’s not where the film is headed either.
This is a sensible movie. And it remains one almost entirely. The promos are obvious. They tell you all that there is to know before you step into the theatre. There is a group of con-men. Akshay plays the confident mastermind. Anupam Kher (wonderfully conflicted) is his old, nervous deputy. These are regular sort of blokes who pose as investigators from the CBI. They recruit the local police, get into vehicles that are earmarked for the “Government of India”, barge into the official residence of a minister in Lutyen’s Delhi, knock open every hole in the wall as thick wads of cash shower over their heads. They seal all the jewels and money into metal suitcases, pack them into their car’s trunk, and run off with the loot before the minister realises he’s been robbed in broad daylight.
The politician has a reputation to protect. He doesn’t file a police complaint. He says his netagiri will seem questionable if the news spreads that four random people could wipe out his whole house while he sat there and watched. The reason for hushing up this fake raid is obviously a lot simpler. The stolen money is illegal. Two wrongs don’t make a right. How do you report robbery for something that you weren’t supposed to possess in the first place? The plan is cunningly smart. The execution is exhilarating. The team of con-men similarly regroup every once in a while, posing as various other government agents. It is said they’re a national menace, having conducted similar raids in other Indian towns.
In the film, we see them only twice in action – in New Delhi and Calcutta. The third one in Bombay is where the film’s climax is set. The year is 1987, when Giani Zail Singh is India’s President in white turban. The Times of India is a black and white newspaper. The filmmakers take care of ‘80s Delhi, showing rows of Maruti 800s and Premier Padmini’s on the roads of Connaught Place. Calcutta possibly looks the same as it did three decades ago. Director Neeraj Pandey (A Wednesday) casts his eyes well on getting the broad detailing right.
Rotary, landline phone is the only mode of communication. The group’s modus operandi would be impossible now with cellphones around. It’s getting harder for them still, since the top CBI sleuth (Manoj Bajpayee, in a cracker-jack role) is on to their case. He has to catch these crooks red-handed. There is no other proof against them. It becomes a cat and mouse chase then, not very different from Steven Spielberg’s stunning Catch Me If You Can (2002). The plot moves at lightning speed – “cut to cut” as filmies would call it. If there are glatring holes in the plan, you won't have time to step back from the movie and think, which is a good thing.

We know very little about the main character’s background, besides that they are ordinary men with remarkable self-belief. This trait is good enough to trick the world. Most of us are likely to fall prey to such shenanigans. And surely have in some form or the other. All I could hear at the film’s interval from fellow smokers were similar real life incidents that happened to them or took place across Bombay, from Chembur to Jhaveri Bazaar. No one quite brought up the great Indian con-man Mr Natwarlal. He could sell the monument Taj Mahal many times over (something that also inspired the film Bunty Aur Babli).
There is no doubt this movie is based on a true story. It’s too crafty for a screenwriter’s invention. So are the folks before us on the screen. While you know the basic story, you’re always aware there could be a fine twist at the end. And that is a surprise. Besides that this super-smart movie stars Akshay Kumar.

Movie review: ABCD - Any Body Can Dance

Breathtaking dance moves, great attitude – but what’s with the mediocre acting and substandard script?

In Remo D’Souza’s Any Body Can Dance, Kay Kay Menon (Jehangir) is an image conscious entrepreneur who owns a la-di-da dance class every rich slicker would want to enroll in. He steps into the shoes of a wannabe attention-seeker amazingly, and keeps himself and his classes in the media eye with great dexterity. From sporting spikes to wearing light-blue lens, he teams disastrous style statements with a goatee – in spite of all this, Menon hands down is the most fabulous performer in the whole film. The way he says ‘we dance to impress’ to his students, in a very sinister way, makes us loathe him. KK…take a bow!
Prabhudeva (Vishnu), who works for Menon, is highly disappointed with his dishonest ways to keep his students motivated. So despite delivering a shoddy performance at one of the most happening and biggest dance competitions, when the team wins, Prabhudeva – who’s the teacher, wonders how they of all the people attained victory. He doubts and questions Menon’s unethical strategy, but unfortunately that lands him on the lowest rung of the ladder- from a choreographer to an accounts department manager.
Obviously the Muqabla dude is not going to give up his passion to chill at the desk the whole day and help students laminate their id cards. He leaves in style, shrugs his shoulder, yanks at his jacket with great ferocity – only to return to Chennai – god knows to do what, not make idlis, we hope!
But Prabhu’s friend Ganesh Acharya (who overacts a lot) comes to rescue. Epiphany moment arrives when he comes across a group of chawl inhabitants. Eureka moment – Prabhudeva mutters in his mind, whispers under his breath – what if he trains these hooligans – these ill-mannered jhopadpatti guys whose nerves are made of steel and moves are almost tectonic. So preparations begin to gear them up for one of the biggest dance competition- the rich brats VS the unfortunate guys, high street dudes VS low street thugs…
That’s how it all begins; Prabhu literally becomes the Prabhu for his students. He teaches them discipline, the importance of standing out in the crowd by doing something hatke, and everything good apart from Hindi – and thank God for that…!
What went wrong: The fact that the script is so clichéd, and honestly we would have overlooked all that if the acting, if not decent, was less filmi. A concept that’s done to death in Hollywood is churned out with a desi touch to it. Apologies to Prabhdeva fans- but his thespian skills aren’t as good as his booty shaking talents.
Who impresses: Lauren Gottlieb – a firang babe with oodles of talent, great face, good acting, amazing dancer- what else do you want? KK, as we aforementioned, is a powerhouse actor, and you can’t take your eyes off his villainous acts. Punit Pathak impresses as a junkie and this guy if honed, he is capable of becoming the next Bollywood stud. The last dance finale act in the film is superb. If it doesn’t give you goosebumps, we will change our name (kidding, we won’t). Saroj Khan shaking a leg in the end with director Remo D’Souza, Prabhudeva and Ganesh Acharya is a surprise package which we relish- even though for a couple of seconds.
Starring: Salman Yusuf Khan, Dharmesh Yelande, Kay Kay Menon, Prabhudeva, Lauren Gottlieb, Ganesh Acharya, Prince Gupta, Mayuresh Wadkar, Vrushali Chavan.

Salman picks Karishma over Sana

Image
New Delhi: 'Bigg Boss 6' contestant Karishma Kotak has finally bagged the jackpot leaving behind Sana Khan. The actress has been signed in for Sohail Khan's upcoming film, 'Mental.'

Earlier, 'Bigg Boss 6' contestant Sana Khan, who was considered rather close to the show’s host and actor Salman Khan, was being considered for the project, according to reports.

While Salman was shooting for the sixth season of the reality TV show, he even said, “Sana has great potential and she will get many offers after coming out from Bigg Boss 6.” His statement had then sparked rumours of Sana grabbing the lucrative deal.

But, putting all rumours to rest, Karishma will now be seen opposite Salman in the film.

According to a close source, Salman had a key role to play in Karishma's selection. "Salman has had a good equation with Kotak ever since he shot a TV commercial with her last year. In fact, he also advocated for her inclusion in 'Bigg Boss 6'. He believes the model can deliver a strong performance on screen."

Earlier, 'Cocktail' girl Diana Penty's name was also doing the rounds.

A source informs, "Salman has no issues with Penty, who definitely was one of the main contenders for the role. It was just that both Salman and Sohail were keen on casting a new face."

Clearly, Sana’s loss is Karishma’s gain.

Ranbir to produce 'Bombay Velvet'

Image
New Delhi: After proving his mettle in acting, Bollywood's chocolate boy Ranbir Kapoor will now don producer's hat.

The 'Rockstar' who is currently busy finishing his lined-up projects - ' Besharam' and 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani', will join hands with director-producer Anurag Kashyap to co-produce his ambitious project, 'Bombay Velvet' under his production house, Phantom Productions.
When the actor was contacted then he said:"Innovative content excites me and I believe the Phantom team is a pioneer at it. This seems to be the perfect time in my career to take up bigger ownership of a film and be a producer."

According to a close source, "Anurag had several meetings with the presenters of the film, Viacom 18. The film has an epic canvas, with a budget of approximately 95 crores. Ranbir was not a part of the proposal at that time, since the casting was far from final."

Initially, Ranbir was roped in to play the lead role in the film; but later his involvement in theproject impresseed the makers so much that they requested him to join them in producing the film.

Apparently, Ranbir on the other hand was more than happy to become the co-producer.

'Bombay Velvet' stars Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in the main lead and is based on historian Gyan Prakash's Mumbai Fables. It traces the evolution of the city, starting from the 50s, against the backdrop of love, crime, violence and music.

SRK, Rohit behind Dipy's 'lungi' look

Image
New Delhi: Will Deepika Padukone's 'lungi' and shirt look from 'Chennai Express' posters spark a trend? Tough to predict whether Dipy will be as hot as Zeenie Baby who made a style statement with her ‘lungi’ looks in several films in the 70s.

The actress reveals that film's lead actor Shah Rukh Khan and director Rohit Shetty came up with the idea to dress her in a 'lungi'. "That's something new and I hope it works," says Deepika about her look.

"The idea to wear a 'lungi' is not mine actually. It was Shah Rukh and Rohit who came up with it. We had to quickly do a photoshoot because we were losing the light. They were like 'Why don't we give her this 'lungi' and make her look modern'. The shirt that I am wearing in the posters also belongs to SRK, only the sunglasses are mine," the actress said.

The pot-boiler, which reunites Deepika with SRK onscreen after her debut in 'Om Shanti Om', is slated to release this year.

Deepika, fresh from the success of 'Race 2', is looking forward to back-to-back releases this year.

"It has been a good year but my next next six months are very demanding in terms of my schedule. I hope all the hard work pays. I have 'Chennai Express' and 'Kochadaiyaan' with Rajini (Rajinikanth) sir is also ready for release," said Deepika.

She has two other films -'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani', with Ranbik Kapoor and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Ram Leela'.

Rajjo starts Tollywood innings

Image
New Delhi: Bollywood's 'Dabangg' actress Sonakshi Sinha will soon be seen grooving and romancing Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu.

The Shotgun junior has signed writer-director Krish Jagarlamudi’s period film, 'Shivam', and is all set for her innings down South.

Bollywood actresses taking a route down South is nothing new, but what surprises us is that, this step is generally taken by stars when they are not doing great in Hindi film industry. But, what made Sonakshi take that step? Since the day she stepped into the film business, 'Rajjo' has given back-to-back hits, rather most of her films went on to make 100 crore at the box office.

'Dabangg' in 2010 opposite Salman Khan, 'Rowdy Rathore' in 2012 with Akshay Kumar, 'Son of Sardaar' in 2012 starring Ajay Devgn and last release of 2012, 'Dabangg 2' again with Salman Khan, were all blockbusters.

It seems an interesting script is what Sonakshi needs to sign a film, be it Bollywood or Tollywood.

Reportedly, Krish began writing the film three years ago, when he first saw Sonakshi in her debut film, 'Dabangg' opposite Salman. He wanted to narrate the script to 'Rajjo' back then, but Sonakshi was not too keen to divert her attention to any other industry that time.

It was Prabhu Deva who helped Krish meet Sonakshi, where she got the narration of the script as well.

“Recently, thanks to Prabhu Deva, Krish managed to meet Sonakshi and the first thing he told her was that he had written the film keeping her in mind. The narration was supposed to take only 45 minutes, but because Sonakshi wanted to know every detail, it only ended three hours later,” says the source.

When the actress was contacted she confirmed the news saying, "It’s a wonderful period film and will project Mahesh and me in a very different light. It will also give me tremendous scope to perform. Even though I have a packed schedule here in Bollywood, I will make time for this movie. I believe opportunities like these come only once in a lifetime.”

Sonakshi's green signal to join the project has left director Krish super-excited and thrilled. "Sonakshi is a combination of beauty, elegance and great acting skills. That’s why Mahesh, producer Aswani Dutt and I thought she should be introduced to the south Indian film industry too. She already has a fan following here."

The film is expected to go on the floors later this year.

This Friday, it will be Akki Vs Prabhu

Image
New Delhi: This Friday it will be Prabhu Deva versus Akshay Kumar at the box office.

Prabhu Deva and Akshay Kumar who joined hands for their last project, 'Rowdy Rathore', will now come face-to-face at the ticket window.

Deva's film, 'ABCD – Any Body Can Dance' and Akki's film, 'Special Chabbis' both are all set to hit theatres on February 8.

'ABCD: Anybody Can Dance' is first of its kind Bollywood dance film, which is made in 3D for the first time. Directed by Remo d'souza and produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur, the film stars Prabhu Deva, Ganesh Acharya, Kay Kay Menon, Terence Lewis, Shakti Mohan, Lauren Gottlieb, Dharmesh Yelande and Salman Yusuff Khan.

In an exclusive interview with NEWS 24, director of the ambitious project Remo said, "I saw this dream of making a dance film 19 years ago."

When Prabhu was asked the reason for signing the film he said, "I did this film for Remo. Then later I came to know that it's a dance film, so it was double Ok from my side."

Films only female lead actress, Lauren Gottlieb expressed her excitement of being a part of the project to NEWS 24. She said, "I am really lucky to be a part of the film and very excited to be in India."

Remo who is a well known choreographer, finds choreographing slow songs or songs expressing emotions more difficult. He said, "Peppy numbers are much easy to choreograph than slow emotional songs."

Akshay's film 'Special Chabbis' also stars Jimmy Shergill, Kajal Aggarwal, Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher. It is directed by 'A Wednesday' fame director Neeraj Pandey.

Very soon we will tell you who passed and who failed at the box office

Salman knew he would kill people: Court

Image
Actor Salman Khan had knowledge that his act of rash driving would result in death or injuries to people, a Magistrate observed while charging him with a more serious offence of culpable homicide not amounting to murder in a decade-old hit-and-run case.

Salman was warned by his police bodyguard Ravindra Patil not to drive at a speed of 90 to 100 km per hour as there was a turning ahead or else the vehicle would meet with accident
but he did not pay heed to his advice, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate V S Patil noted last week in his order, a copy of which was made available on February 8.

Salman's lawyer Dipesh Mehta told PTI that the actor would challenge the order, given on a Maharashtra Government plea, in the Bombay High Court soon.

On the night of September 28, 2002, Salman had allegedly rammed his Toyota Land Cruiser into a roadside bakery at suburban Bandra, killing one person and injuring four others
who were sleeping on the pavement.

The 47-year-old was earlier charged under IPC Section 304 A (rash and negligent driving) which attracts two years' punishment and is tried by a Magistrate. Now he has been charged under IPC Section 304 part II (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), for which maximum jail term is 10 years.

The Magistrate, in his order on January 31, said the actor was under the influence of liquor, according to reports of pathological tests.

The Court disagreed with Salman's argument that he had no knowledge that there would be an accident and people would die if he drove at a fast speed. On the contrary, the actor had
knowledge about this because he stays in the vicinity and knows the topography of the place, the Magistrate noted.

The Magistrate rejected Salman's contention that at the relevant time it was dark and the accident was not intentional but an act of God. He reiterated the actor had knowledge that
he would meet with accident if he drove at high speed because he was warned by the police bodyguard who was sitting next to him in the ill-fated car.

Salman argued that the Court cannot alter the charge on the basis of an application made by the prosecution. The Magistrate, however, felt that the Court can any time alter the charge before the trial concludes.

In this case, the Magistrate pointed out, prosecution had only drawn the Court's attention to the evidence adduced by it to show that charge of 'culpable homicide not amounting to
murder' was made out against the accused.

Ultimately, it was the Court's decision to invoke this charge on the basis of evidence tabled before it.

Interestingly, this is the second time that Salman is being tried under the stringent provision of IPC. Earlier too, the Magistrate had charged with him with the same offence and referred the case to Sessions Court for trial.

The actor had challenged application of this charge in the Sessions Court which rejected his plea. He had then moved the Bombay High Court which ruled that the charge of 'culpable
homicide not amounting to murder' would not apply in the case.

Maharashtra Government approached the Supreme Court, which set aside the order of both Sessions Court and HC.

"But we make it very clear that at any appropriate stage if the Magistrate comes to the conclusion that there is sufficient material to charge the accused with a more serious offence than the one punishable u/s 304(A), he shall proceed to do so.

"As such decision of the Magistrate shall be purely based on the material brought in evidence at the time of trial," the apex court had observed.

Acting on a prosecution plea, the Magistrate last week slapped the charge of 'culpable homicide not amounting to murder' on the actor and referred the case to Sessions Court

Bolly babes copy Holly divas

Image
New Delhi: Our Bollywood divas define fashion trends in our country. They are the real trend setters, and fashion gurus for many young girls. But is their fashion sense original? Ever wondered why do they keep copying Hollywood hotties, rather than donning something new and stylish?

Bollywood's latest copycat babe is Kareena Kapoor Khan. The actress was spotted in the same black long sleeved Tom Ford dress that was sported by Hollywood TV reality star Kim Kardashian, when she stepped out to promote her new perfume during Fashion’s Night Out in New York City.

Bebo, who was posing merrily at the launch of her book 'The Confessions of a Style Diva', matched her dress with black pumps and golden belt. Copying the style of a Hollywood celeb at the launch of your own "style" book is definitely a bad idea begum sahiba. And, think of your fans, this might not leave a good impression on them, Bebo.

This is not the first time a Bollywood actress has copied an international celebrity.

Also joining the league is B-Town’s fashionista Sonam Kapoor, who initially made us believe that her dressing style was original. But very soon everyone came to know that the actress is just a copycat and has nothing new to offer to her fans.

All her dresses, hairstyles, bags are nothing but a Xerox of what the international style icons are doing.

In 2011, Sonam was spotted wearing the same Prabal Gurung red & black pleated one shoulder dress at the Bombay Times 16th anniversary party that was worn by Hilary Rhoda at 2010 Costume Institute Gala, New York.

Any plans to leave this habit of copying other celebs, Sonam?

It seems B-Town babes are suffering from copycat syndrome. Come out of it girls! Your fans will definitely love your original sense of style.
